The Ant and the Grasshopper

Poem

Winter creeps, nature sleeps, Birds are gone, flowers are none;

Fields are bare, bleak the air; Leaves are shed, all things dead.

Story

In a fine and warm day, Ant is collecting all the food he can get before winter.

He is also drying grain collected in the summertime.

He is taking along an ear of corn to his nest.

Next to him, Grasshopper is hopping about, chirping and singing.

Song

Jimmy crack corn and I don't care. Jimmy crack corn and I don't care.

Jimmy crack corn and I don't care. Winter's gone away.

Story

‘Why not come and play with me, instead of toiling and moiling in that way?’

‘I am helping to lay up food for the winter,' says Ant, 'I recommend you do the same.'

‘No, It is still warm. I have plenty of time,' says Grasshopper.

‘Why bother about winter? We have got plenty of food now.’

But the Ant goes on its way.

Poem

Busy are all creatures, Winter food to hide; Nests to make all cozy, Warm and safe inside.

Story

Winter comes. Grasshopper is hungry and cold. There isn't even one little grass.

He sees Ant giving every day corn and grain from the stores.

Grasshopper goes over to Ant's house. He asks: "Can I have some crumbs?"

Ant asks, "Why did you not treasure up food during the summer?"

Grasshopper says, "I had not leisure enough. I passed the days in singing."

Ant replies: "If you were foolish enough to sing all the summer, you must dance supper less to bed in the winter."

Song

All night, all day, angels watching over me, my Lord.

All night, all day, angels watching over me, my Lord.

When I at night I go to sleep, angels watching over me, my Lord.

Pray the Lord my soul to keep, angels watching over me.

All night, all day, angels watching over me, my Lord.

All night, all day, angels watching over me, my Lord.

Down is the earth, up is the sky
There are my friends, and here am I

uwwwww, uwwwwww. It's winter. It's cold.
Busy are all creatures, winter food to hide.
Nests to make cozy, warm and safe inside.

Daddy Rabbit and Mommy Rabbit are outside.
It's too cold. Let's go back home.

Rabbits! Rabbits! Where are you?

Where are the rabbits where the North Winds blow?
We can not see them in the ice and snow.
Deep deep down in the mud they lie,
Rabbits sleeping with tight closed eyes.

Little rabbit wants to go outside. I want to go outside.
Mommy says, no, no, it's too cold. Come back home.

Rose red is the evening sky.
Do, do let us go on our evening walk.
Tomorrow may be dull and gray.
Do, do let us go on our evening walk.

-Poem
 January brings the snow
Makes our feet and fingers glow
In January there is lots of snow,
All our cheeks and noses glow.
 In January falls the snow,
In February cold winds blow.
January comes with frost and snow.
February brings us winds that blow.
January, cold and desolate

February 2008

Short story related to Chinese New Year and mouse
Chinese New Year = February 7th 2008

Poem:
Hands to work and feet to run
God's good gifts for me and you;
Hands and feet he gave to us
To help each other the whole day through.
Eyes to see and ears to hear,
God's good gifts for me and you;
Eyes and ears he gave to us
To help each other the whole day through
Minds to think and eharts to love,
God's good gifts for me and you;
Minds and hearts he gave to us
To help each other the whole day through.

Poem:
February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.
In February there is rain and ice,
To stay indoors is very nice.
In January falls the snow,
In February cold winds blow.
January comes with frost and snow,
February brings us winds that blow.
February all dripping wet.

Poem:
A little garden flower Is lying in its bed
A warm spring sun Is shining overhead
Down came the rain drops Dancing to and fro-
The little flower wakens And then begins to grow.

Song:
Round and round the garden goes the little mouse
Up, up, up he creeps up into his house.

Song:
In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight,
In the jungle, the quiet jungle, the lion sleeps tonight.
Near the village, the peaceful village, the lion sleeps tonight,
Near the village, the peaceful village, the lion sleeps tonight.
Hush my darling, don't fear my darling, the lion sleeps tonight,
Hush my darling, don't fear my darling, the lion sleeps tonight.

Story:
Once upon a time, a Lion is asleep.
A little Mouse begins running up and down upon him.
This soon wakes the Lion.
He places his huge paw upon him.
He opens his big jaws to swallow him.

Poem:
King of beasts, the Lion
Has velvet-padded paws
Majestic mane to crown his head
And strong and cavernous jaws

Story:
"Pardon me, O King," cries the little Mouse.
"Forgive me this time, I shall never forget it.
Who knows but what I may be able to do you a turn some of these days?"
The Lion is so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him.
He lifts up his paw and lets him go.

Song:

Story:
Some time after the Lion is caught in a trap.
The hunters want to carry him alive to the King.
They tie him to a tree.
Just then the little Mouse happens to pass by.
She sees the sad plight in which the Lion is.
She goes up to him.
She eats away the ropes that bind the King of the Beasts.
"Was I not right?" said the little Mouse.

Story:
Little friends may prove great friends.

Song:

Song: Lavender 37 / 47
Round about the wood they go
Creeping on the mossy floor
While the birds and flowers are sleeping
Little mice! Little mice!
If a footfall they should hear
See them stop in sudden fear
Then with tiny cries and squeaking
Homeward fly, a refuge seeking
Little mice! Little mice!

Song Lavender 29 / 38
Three blind mice, three blind mice
See how they run! See how they run!
They all ran after the farmer's wife
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife
Did you ever see such a sight in your life
As three blind mice!

Chant:
One, two, three, four, Posting letters
Through our door Who's got a letter?
Who are they for?
One's for Ali One's for Sue
One's for me And one's for you!

Poem:
Upstairs, downstairs, where's the mouse?
Upstairs, downstairs, out of the house.
Run round the corner, run, run, run.
Out in the garden- Oh what fun!

....

Another story:
The Elephant Saver
There was once a town, which had been abandoned for a long time. And a group of mice have lived in that area happily. Deep in the jungle, lived an elephant king and a herd of thousands elephants. There came a bad time when the lake in the jungle dried up.
The elephant king heard about the lake near the mouse town. he led his herd to the lake. As the elephants marched through the mouse town, many of the mice were killed or badly injured. After the huge animals had passed through, the remaining mice gathered for a meeting in the town hall. They came up with a plan. A few of the brave mice were chosen to be messengers. There messengers went to the forest to meet with the elephant king.
The leader of the messengers said, "Oh, lephant King, not far from here is our little town. However, not long ago, you and your herd passed through our town to drink water at the lake. And many of our mice were killed and crushed under the feet of the elephants. Please have pity on us. Please take another route to the lake." The elephant king agreed to their request.
Few months later, the ruler of the country ordered to catch some elephants. Few days later, the elephant king and most of his herd were caught in the traps and were tied up to stout trees. He remembered the mice's promise. He asked one of the elephant to inform the mice.
On hearing this, the mice quickly gathered and followed the elephant to the site where the elephants were tied up. As soon as they reached the spot, they began quickly to gnaw the ropes. In a short time, all ropes were broken and all the elephants were released.

March 2008

sun / caterpillar / butterfly

Poem:

March is blossoms, purple, gold

Six petals to the sun unfold

In March peep out the early flowers

Poem

Sun, Sun, Sun, here it come
The dark becomes light, why?
Because Sun, Sun, Sun, here it come
Sun, Sun, Sun, here it come
At the end of the night
The light is bright,

Sun, Sun, Sun, here it come,
Here come the Sun

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/here-come-the-sun/

Story

Father Sun is riding joyfully through the blue sky. He is thinking:

'It is time that Spring comes - Mother Earth and I must take Spring together.'

So he calls down: 'Mother Earth, look up, it is time for Spring. We must get busy.'

Story

Mother Earth looks up from her Winter thoughts and answers:

'Yes, Father Sun, it is indeed time for Spring. Shine brightly and send your sunbeams streaming down to the earth. Then we can make Spring together.'

Poem / Song

Spring is coming, spring is coming.

Birdies, build your nest;

Weave together straw and feather.

Doing each your best.

Spring is coming, spring is coming,

All around is fair;

Shimmer and quiver on the river.

Joy is everywhere.

Story

So the sun shines warmly and Mother Earth passes from place to place and wherever she shakes her mantle green shoots appear, and afterwards many colored blossoms like tiny stars push their way towards the sunlight. Tiny caterpillars emerge from their eggs and begin to eat the leaves of the plants.

Song. STTS 28

Caterpillar! Caterpillar! You are such a pretty sight!

Caterpillar! Caterpillar! Blue and yellow, black and white!

Take care what you do. Robins are hunting you.

Take care what you do. Sparrows are chasing you.

Story

Tiny caterpillars emerge from their eggs and begin to eat the leaves of the plants. The plants do not mind. They have so many leaves. The caterpillars grow fat and active.

One caterpillar went to Mother Earth and began to grumble. 'It is not fair,' he said, 'the plants have flowers that can sway in the wind and look at the sun. I have to stay in the shadows of the underside of the leaves. Why can't I be a flower and worship the sun?'

Poem

Like a butterfly
I want to fly
I want to flap and spread my wings
From branch to branch
From flower to flower

Song

I want to be a butterfly

To spread my wings and fly

To the purple blue sun

Story

'You are too fat, too much wrapped up in your own body,' said Mother Earth, 'you think of nothing but eating and your own comfort.' 'But I can run quite fast,' said the caterpillar, 'tell me how I can become a fly. I, too, would like to worship the sun.'

'You have big thoughts, you fat little grub,' said Mother Earth. Then she spoke solemnly and slowly. 'There is a way of becoming different, but it is hard and dangerous. He who came from the sun and brought new life to the earth, he showed the way.'

Story

'Tell me, tell me,' shouted the caterpillar, 'what must I do?'

'You will have to be very brave and be ready to die,' said Mother Earth. 'First you must spin for yourself a white silky garment. You must wind it tightly around your fat little body and then lie quite still and wait. The silky garment will turn quite hard and you will feel as though you are in prison. Your body will dissolve slowly away and you will think that you are going to die. Your body will change into green juice. When there is almost nothing left of you, an angel will come from the sun and press the pattern of your new form against your hard prison and it will go right through into the green juice. Slowly, your new, delicate body will begin to take shape in which you will be able to worship the sun.'

Song S35

Caterpillar creep about. Round and round and in and out.

When you are fed come spin your bed. Go to sleep, deep, deep.

As a caterpillar die, waken as a butterfly.

Story

'I will try,' said the caterpillar humbly. And he started spinning the white silky garment. When it was wrapped around him and had turned hard, he lay still, waiting, waiting. It seemed a very long time. He felt himself turning into green juice and he wondered if he would die. But the angel came from the sun with a new pattern and pressed it into him. Gradually the new, much finer and more delicate body formed within his prison. And at last his narrow prison burst open and he emerged intot he sunlight. He found he had golden wings and could fly towards the sun. Joyfully he called out, 'I am a flower that can fly! Thank you, Mother Earth, Thank you, Father Sun. Now I can truly worship the sun.' So the caterpillar who had become a butterfly, flew from blossom to blossom and sang songs of joy to the sun.

Song

Little butterfly, so beautiful and free. Little butterfly, don't fly too far from me.

Red, green and orange, black, yellow, blue.

Please stay nearby where I can see you.

Song Dancng as we sing p36

Fly, fly, butterfly, whither lies your way?

I fly to the sun on this lovely spring day.

Fly, fly, butterfly with wings if every hue.

From the sun please bring us a greeting or two.

Poem

butterfly, butterfly, fly in the sky
butterfly, butterfly, flies so high
butterfly, butterfly, lands on my thigh
butterfly, butterfly, motionlessly lies
butterfly, butterfly, gracefully dies

Poem

Sun, Sun, Sun, here it come
Grass, grass, grass, green grass, watch it grow
Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, lots of water every day
Mow, mow, mow, in the hot Sun for the rest of your days
Sun sun sun, here it come
It will make the green, green, grass
Grow high enough to mow

@Poem
April is here. Gold trumpets sound.
And stars of white bedeck the ground.
And April comes with sunny showers.

@ Poem
Spring is here. Spring is here. Fairies dancing in a ring.
Flowers are growing up so high. Birds are flying in the sky.
Trees are swaying in the breeze. Sunshine is laughing o'ver the leaves.
Mother Earth is bathed in light. Spring is here, Spring is here.
Fairies dancing in a ring.

@Story
One warm Spring morning, a rabbit comes hopping through the green grass in the woods. He is full of happiness. "Good morning, starling. Greetings, golden daffodils. Hello there, Prickly Hedgehog."
Then he meets another rabbit. It is his friend Wagtail. "Hello, old friend", but there is no time to talk. Wagtail had hurt is paw and a hound was chasing after him. Fleet Foot could hear the hound coming nearer through the leaves.
"Come quickly, Wagtail, and crouch down under this bush," said Fleet Foot. He helped his friend to hide. Then away he bounded through the trees and the dog followed after. Round and round he led the dog, over streams, through the fields, across the meadows.
At last Fleet Foot was tired out and wanted to rest. Then Father Sun looked down and saw the dog chasing the rabbit. "I will help Fleet Foot." he said. And he peeped out from behind a cloud and shone so brightly that the dog was dazzled and had to sit down. Quickly Fleet Foot slipped under the garden fence into the long grass and away. Now the hound had lost the scent of the rabbit, so he trotted home to the farm.
Next Fleet Foot met Wagtail. "Happy springtime, Wagtail!, " he said. "Happy Easter, Fleet Foot," said Wagtail.

There's something about me That isn't showing
I'm growing!

@Story
A bunny came to call last night.
I did not see him. That is right.
But he was there. Here's how I know.
He nibbled at my carrot row.

@ Poem
Little brown seed, round and round,
Here I put you in the ground.
You can sleep a week or two,
Then - I'll tell you what to do:
You must grow some downward roots,
Then some tiny upward shoots.
From these green shoots' folded sheaves
Soon must come some healthy leaves.
When the leaves have time to grow,
Next a bunch of buds must show.
Last of all, the birds must spread
Instead blossoms white or red.
There, seed! I've done my best.
Please to grow and do the rest.

@ Song
Bunnies zip and bunnies zoom, bunnies sometimes sleep till noon.
Zoom zoom zoom-zoom, all through the afternoon.
Zoom zoom zoom-zoom, thisis the song of the bunnies.
Bunnies jump and bunnies run, bunnies also sit in the sun.
Run run run-run, run bunnies jump and run,
Run run run-run, this is the song of the bunnies.

Proud missus rabbit, she has a little bunny now, down on Cherry Tree Farm.
Hear them together, in any sort of weather, 'Munch, munch, munch.'

Splish, splash, splish, splash, here's how we walk in the rain
Splish, splash, splish, splash, here's how we walk in the rain
And splash! we run through the puddles.
And splosh! we skip in the rain.
And splish! we turn round the corner.
Until we come home again.

flowers

Poem

On the earth I stand upright

The sun above by day gives light

The moon and stars by night.

Poem

May is the month of pink of white,

Apple, May and Parsley light

In May the roses bloom so gay.

Story

Once upon a time, there was a little boy.

He lived in a house surrounded by a garden.

The trees and flowers in the garden were his friends.

Story

One day Mother gave him a handful of seeds and said:

'Let us go into the garden and plant these seeds in the earth.

If we look after them we shall see how they will grow, with the help of their friends.

Story

The first helpers will be the rain fairies who will sing: 'It's time for you to wake up.'

Then the earth fairies will come and they will help the roots to grow and to hold firm within the earth.

Story

The next helpers will be the wind fairies.

They will play with the leaves and help the plants to stretch towards the sun.

Then one day the plants will feel something shining and glowing on their buds.

They will open their petals and whom will they see?  The sun!

Poem

O sun, so bright, You give your light

And warming love From Heaven above

That life on earth May come to birth

Story

The child took the seeds into the garden and planted them in the earth.

Little brown brother, oh, little brown brother

Are you awake in the dark?

Here we lie cozily, close to each other,

Hark, to the song of the lark.

Waken, the lark says, and dress you,

Put on your green coat and gay

Blue sky will shine on you, sunshine caress you,

Waken, 'tis morning, 'tis May!

Little brown brother, oh, little brown brother,

What kind of flower will you be?

Song

The Flower Song   by Nancy Stewart
Sow the seeds in the ground below Add the sun and the rain
See the flowers grow I can see in front of me
A daffodil as pretty as can be

Sow the seeds in the ground below Add the sun and the rain
See the flowers grow I can see in front of me
A yellow rose as pretty as can be

Sow the seeds in the ground below Add the sun and the rain
See the flowers grow I can see in front of me
A tulip just as pretty as can be

Sow the seeds in the ground below Add the sun and the rain
See the flowers grow I can see in front of me
An iris just as pretty as can be

http://www.nancymusic.com/Flower.htm

http://www.nancymusic.com/Flowerplay.htm

Story

What kind of flower will you be?

I'll be a poppy, all red like my mother,

Do be a poppy like me.

What? You're a sunflower? How shall I miss you?

When you are golden and high,

But I shall send all the bees up to kiss you,

Little brown brother, Goodbye!

The little boy tended and cared for them and together the child and the seeds woke up.

Soon the plants grew straight and strong.

Song

The earth needs the raindrops; the day needs the light,

and heaven needs little stars when the day turns to light.

The tree needs a little branch where the bird builds his nest,

and we need a little heart to love and to trust.

STTD P61 noT

Song

Chorus:

Every tree has roots (arms facing down with fingers spread on floor)
a trunk  (arms facing up from elbows with fingers closed in fists)
and leaves (open fingers, spread wide)
and flowers too (wiggle fingers)
The flowers and leaves and trunk and roots
all have a job to do (repeat above movements in reverse)

It all begins with the flowers
for they keep the seeds that grow
When they’re carried by the wind, the birds and squirrels,
down to the ground below

The leaves are a food factory, using sun and water too
We call it photosynthesis, the trees just call it food

The trunk is the highway of the tree, it takes the water from the roots below
Up to the leaves, then it sends the food back down so the roots will grow

The roots take the water and minerals from the soil where they grow
Send them up to the leaves and get the food they need
to spread out in the ground below

Working together all these parts make a lovely place to be
A home to squirrels, birds, and bugs, and a shady place to sit and sing

Poem

From star to star, from sun and spring and leaf,

And almost audible flowers whose sound is silence.

And in the common meadows, springs the seed of life.

Now the lilies open, and the rose

Released by summer from the harmless graves

That, centuries deep, are in the air we breather,

And in our earth, and in our daily bread.

Song

http://www.nancymusic.com/Buyflowersplay.htm

Who Would Like to Buy My Flowers?
Who would like to buy my flowers
They are fresh and pretty too
If you give me just a nickel
I will give a flower to you
I would like to buy your flower
It is fresh and pretty too
I will give you this one nickel
I will buy a flower from you

Song

Firebornspirit

We sing the song of the spirit

In one voice, the Music of life

We dance the rhythm of nature

And we drum the beat of our heart

Hear the earth call to you

Feel the air lifting you

See the fire dance for you

Let the water carry you

Extra

May

May the sun has drowned in the west,

It will surely rise in the east;
May the sea seem far wide,
It always has a shore the other side;
May the water evaporate in air,
It will surely come down I swear;
May the world has changed its attire,
It will always keep its glorious satire;
May they say that you have died,
You will always be sleeping by my side…
… In my heart! ! !

Poem

Seize the day

Gods gift he shares
The flowers in bloom
Morning birds do sing
The humming birds do flit
In the early morning dew

Little Grandmother Evergreen
Once upon a time there was a mother who had two children. One day when she did not feel very well, she longed for some fresh berries; so she sent her children off to the woods to pick some berries for her. They went along and picked a basket full.

There came along a little old lady, who was dressed all in green, and she said to the children, 'I am very hungry, but I cannot bend down so well anymore, for I am very old. Would you please give me some of your berries?' The children pitied the old woman, so they emptied a whole basketful of berries into her apron, wanting to hurry off to pick some more.
But Granny Evergreen, for that was her name, took them by the hand and said, 'I do not need so many, just a few will do for me; take the others home to your mother. because you have such kind hearts, I will give each of you a flower, one yellow and one blue. Look after them well, give them fresh water every morning, and do not quarrel with one another.'
The children thanked her and hurried home. No sooner had their mother begun eating the berries that she felt quite well again. That, little Granny Evergreen had done for her. When the children told their mother everything that had happened, she was very grateful to little Granny Evergreen, and was happy that her children had been so kind.
Whenever the children look at their flowers, which remained fresh and beautiful, they remembered Granny evergreen's words, 'Do not quarrel.' One evening, however, they grew very cross with one another. 'This is my toy,' cried one of them. 'Oh no, I want it!' said the other. Thus it went on and on, and they went to bed in anger.
The next morning when they wanted to water their flowers, they had turned all drak and droopy. The children grew very sad and wept many bitter tears. But when the tears fell upon the flowers, the one became vbright yelloow and the other lovely blue.
So the children were very happy and never went to bed in a quarrelsome mood again.

200801 class 1 reports

We have had a very good and happy time together. Class 1 is a very interesting and lively group of students. We have studied stories about seasons, such as 'How the Leaves Come Down', 'The Little Gnome' and 'Christmas'. We have learned poems and sung songs together. All students have exhibited excellent attitude and respect for others.

101
Jennifer is a happy and friendly child. She is self confident and has excellent manners. She is very enthusiastic in class. She comprehends the teaching materials quite easily and is asking for games. I enjoyed having her in my class.

102
Tonio is a sweet and enthusiastic child. He takes a keen interest in school. He participates well in class, despite some hearing difficulties that hurts him academically. He still needs guidance and support from both you and me.

103
She is a sweet and friendly child. She enjoys listening to stories and songs.
